Norddeustscher Lloyd leaving Sydney 10 Jan 1903; passengers W F Buchan (Buchanan) and Miss Rouse NB Kathleen Rouse travelled to Western Australia with W F Buchanan, her mother’s cousin. Buchanan had been invited by the WA Govt to the opening ceremony of the Mundaring to Kalgoorlie pipeline, the Goldfields Water Supply Scheme. He is believed to have been a financial backer of this scheme which had been designed by the brilliant Irish engineer, C Y O’Connor. Tragically, O’Connor had committed suicide the previous year Left Sydney 10 January 1903 |

20 Oct 1927 Navarino Centenary Dinner 1927 Booklet recording the centenary dinner in honour of the Battle of Navarino & also including a Musical Programme. “Miss Rouse” appears to have been a guest, as was her friend, Rev D R Fotheringham. The distinguished guests included many with Greek sounding surnames. Seating plan also included NB The Battle of Navarino took place on 20 October 1827 and was influential in the struggle for Greek independence. It is said to have been the last great battle fought entirely with sailing ships. |
